MOSAIC: World News from the Middle East

Here are some reactions to our showing at our monthly meeting of the program Mosaic, which has created such controversy in Newton. Two of our members taped a segment of the program and showed it on large screen last night to an audience of about 60 people. Because many of us do not have cable TV, it seemed appropriate to view it directly.

The program consists of clips of news broadcasts from a variety of Middle Eastern countries, including Israel. The announcers are not polished newscasters, but here are some of the reactions we received:

“I found the experience of [Mosaic]images and stories from various parts of the Middle East both informative and intriguing. Viewing Mosaic was an opportunity to familiarize myself with the unfamiliar and thus to face my fears about undue influence.”

“The evening was great - The Mosaic program very educational - it was great to hear the news given by announcers and citizens from the different countries.  I thought the content was relatively straight forward with little obvious bias.  Some of the information had never been included in our US publications and seemed both interesting and worthy of presentation.   The group discussions and audience participation after the Mosaic film was really 'dialogue' at its best.”

“Mosaic presents a point of view from alternative establishments and shows people with darker skin tones and alternative ways of dressing expressing themselves articulately.”

Now we urge YOU to watch for yourself: Tuesdays on NewTV at 10:30 P.M. Also, be sure to check Democracy Now, which is shown every morning on NewTV, also through Comcast Channel 10 or RCN Channel 15.
